Jamma began playing pan at age 11 and went on to win three titles: (1987 1998, 1999) National Steel Band Soloist Championship of Great Britain. The 1990's saw the birth of the Jamma Caribbean Jazz Band. Using the steelpan as a lead instrument, mixed with the sounds of double bass, piano and saxophones giving a new flavor to the UK's Jazz festivals. Jamma has played around the world including Japan, Trinidad, Europe and the UK and is also the founder of The Birmingham School of Pan, a community school for the youth of Birmingham that gives them a chance to learn Pan and perform. Originally from Trinidad he has been hailed as the "Paganini of the Steelpan, Liam currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Co-Director of the Northern Illinois University Steelband, the same institution at which he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music. Since 2004, Teague has served as arranger for the TCL Group Skiffle Bunch Steel Orchestra in Trinidad. Originally from St.Croix, U.S. ... This episode features Tom "Tommy Rey" Reynolds a pan player, composer, steel drum maker, rock star and businessman from Sanford, FL. Originally from St.Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Tom learned to make pans at age 12 from the Hell's Gate Steel Band. In 1957 he formed his first band "Moonshiners" and while at school in Puerto Rico he formed his band "Tommy Rey and his Caribe Steel Band" which played at the Caribbean Pavillion at the New York World's Fair in 1964. In the 70's Tom formed "Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds" a rock band with 2 number one hits - :"Don't Pull Your Love Out" and "Baby, Baby Fallin in Love". He later returned to his first love, building and playing steel drum. In this episode I feature selections from his 3 CDs "Pan in Paradise", "Island Memories" and " Caribbean-Latin Jazz Connection" .
